The twelve-speed rotary viscometer is a rotary-type instrument powered by a stepping motor. The measured liquid is located in the annular space between two concentric cylinders. A stepping motor drives the outer cylinder to rotate. The outer cylinder generates a torque through the measured liquid acting on the inner cylinder, causing the inner cylinder connected with the torsion spring to rotate by a corresponding angle. According to Newton's law, the size of the angle is proportional to the viscosity of the liquid, so the measurement of the viscosity of the liquid is converted into the measurement of the angle of the inner cylinder. Through the calculation is the liquid viscosity, shear stress.

Tips for the correct use of viscometer
1. When lifting the pulp cup, the liquid level in the cup should not exceed the engraved line of the lower drum to prevent overflowing pulp from damaging parts.
2. If the test sample needs to be heated, it is recommended to heat the sample away from the instrument and place it on the instrument after reaching the experimental temperature. Remove the sample as soon as possible after the experiment (to prevent bearing rust from affecting sensitivity due to long-term corrosive steam). Take the heating pulp cup and be sure to wear heat-insulating gloves to prevent burns.
3. If there are corrosive components such as acid and alkali in the sample, we need to use our acid and alkali resistant viscometer instead of ordinary viscometer.
1. Take out the instrument and check whether the rotating parts, electrical appliances and power plugs are safe and reliable.
2. Rotate the outer drum to the left to remove the outer drum. Turn the inner cylinder counterclockwise and push it upward to engage with the cone end of the inner cylinder shaft. The action should be gentle to avoid deformation and damage of the inner cylinder shaft of the instrument. Rotate the outer drum to the right and install the outer drum. See (Figure B).
3. Pour the freshly stirred drilling fluid into the sample cup to the engraved line (350ml), immediately place it on the tray, and raise the tray to make the liquid level of the inner cup reach the engraved line of the outer drum.
4. Quickly adjust from high speed to low speed for measurement. After the reading of the dial is stable, record the reading under each speed ladder respectively. The thixotropic fluid shall be sheared under a fixed speed ladder for a certain period of time, and the minimum reading shall prevail. The method of rapidly turning to low speed for reading after rapid stirring can also be adopted.
5. The test and data calculation of the viscosity and shear stress of the sample shall be carried out according to "Data Test and Calculation.
6. After the test, turn off the power supply, loosen the hand wheel of the pallet, remove the sample cup, gently rotate the outer drum to the left, and rotate the inner drum counterclockwise and vertically downward to exert force. Remove the inner drum to clean the outer drum and wipe it dry. Install the outer drum on the instrument. When cleaning the inner drum, use fingers to block the cone hole to prevent dirt and liquid from entering the cavity. The inner drum is separately placed at a fixed position in the box.
