Determination time of drilling fluid water loss

The determination of the filtration and wall-building properties of drilling fluids is important for the control and treatment of drilling fluids. Since the filtration performance is affected by the type and content of solid phase in drilling fluid and the physical and chemical effects between them, and is controlled by temperature and pressure, the filtration performance is divided into low temperature and low pressure and high temperature and high pressure, and each requires different instruments and technologies. Determination of medium-pressure water loss The medium-pressure water loss shall be measured by drilling fluid water loss tester. It consists of a cylindrical drilling fluid cup, a support frame, a pressure reducing valve and a filtrate receiver.

Main technical parameters of 1. instrument

1. Drilling fluid cup: the diameter is 75.86~76.86mm, and the filtration area is 45.8cm 2±0.6 cm2,.

2. The working pressure of the instrument: 0.7MPa.

3. Maximum capacity of drilling fluid cup: 300~400 ml.

4. Filter paper: Whatman NO with a diameter of 90mm. 50,S&S NO. 576 or equivalent products.

Procedure for determination of medium pressure water loss in 2.

1. Ensure that all parts in the drilling fluid cup, especially the filter screen, are clean and dry, and the sealing gasket is not deformed or damaged. Block the small hole at the bottom with your finger, inject the drilling fluid sample into the drilling fluid cup so that the liquid level is at the engraved line in the cup, quickly put the "O" ring, filter paper, filter screen and drilling fluid cup cover in sequence, and tighten it clockwise.

2. Turn around and install the drilling fluid cup on the bracket and rotate it 90 ° to clamp it tightly. Place the dry measuring cylinder under the discharge pipe to receive the filtrate. Close the pressure release valve, open the pressure to make the pressure reach 690kPa ± 35 kPa, press it into the drilling fluid cup, keep the pressure stable, and start timing when the drilling fluid cup is pressurized.

3. When the measurement time has come, then remove the measuring cylinder and cut off the medium pressure gas source.

4. Record the API fluid loss in mL. When the water loss is greater than 8mL when the measurement time is 7.5min, the water loss of 7.5min × 2 is the water loss of the drilling fluid; when the water loss is less than 8mL when the measurement time is 7.5min, the measurement is continued for 30min, and the water loss of the drilling fluid is directly read out from the measuring cylinder.

5. Remove the drilling fluid cup from the support under the premise that the internal pressure is completely released. Carefully disassemble the drilling fluid cup, pour out the drilling fluid and remove the filter paper (do not damage the mud cake on the filter paper). Rinse the filter cake on the filter paper with a slow stream of water.

6. Measure and record the thickness of the filter cake in mm, accurate to 0.1mm, and pay attention to the thickness of the filter cake measured in 7.5min × 2. Observe the quality of the mud cake and describe it as hard, soft, tough, dense and firm.

In summary, the measurement time of drilling fluid water loss is 7.5min or 30 minutes, and the measurement time of water loss is determined according to the specific situation.
